Who I Am and Where I Stand

Greetings, and welcome to The Garfield Political. I’m Ben Garfield, the writer for this blog/site/whatever this is. I am making this because I have a lot of thoughts I want to share with the world, but I don’t feel like I have a place to share it. I cannot stand Facebook rants, because I believe they aren’t intelligent and it causes many of the political problems of today. I do have my school blog, which I run, but I feel I may overwhelm the site with my editorials (check it out, www.colehotspot.com). So this is the result. As I go, you’ll deduce more about me and my background and my feelings on a lot of stuff. But I’ll put up a little background now.

I view myself as a run-of-the-mill liberal, a generic Democrat. I see the party as having three distinct groups. There are Hillary Democrats, the more centrist leaning of the party. There are Bernie Democrats, the far-left leaning of the party. And there are Obama Democrats, which are more in the middle of the two. I believe I am an Obama Democrat leaning slightly toward the Hillary side, a vast change from a year ago where I was much further left (I’ll explain that change in a later piece). But there is no one issue that I agree with one person or politician 100%. That is always bound to happen, however, and I think that helps us reach compromises and create better solutions to the issues at hand.

So please read, share, comment, argue, and do whatever you want with my writing (don’t steal it though). I only ask that you are respectful, even if you disagree. We can never bridge this difficult political gap we have if there is no respect. Enjoy!
